January Beach Day

For those of you who are snowbound, I almost hate to show you this photo, taken today on the beach in North Carolina. Sixty degrees. Not too hot, not too cold. Just right.

Walking on the beach is one of the best ways to solve problems, either in 'real' life or in stories-in-progress. On such a walk last January, a solution to an awkward bit in the new book arrived, unbidden.

You reach down to pick up a broken shell and instead you pick up a gem of a character.

Ahhh.

  3. Beautiful picture. We had warm weather this weekend, so a bit of a respite for us although no sand!

  6. Enjoy your warmth, your sand, your creative musings. I'll just keep slogging through the snow.

  7. What a marvelous analogy, Sharon. I love walking on the beach, especially such a deserted one as this. Although we don't have snow, it has been quite rainy. Thank you for the lovely image. – g

  8. right now i want to crawl inside this picture and live there for a while. i want to stay as long as it takes to absorb the water and the blue of the sky and the white of the sand and the feel of the sand. then, maybe, i'll come back here and continue freezing my a$$ off in my freezing basement office while i write grant proposals instead of your kind of writing :-)
