Squirrel Eats Tree Eye

This little squirrel spent a good ten minutes nibbling at the plaster eye on the walnut tree outside my office window. All rather surreal.

And I only recently noticed the irony of having lived fourteen years in Walnut Tree Cottage (which had no walnut tree on the small lot) in England, but now at last walnut trees dot the yard here in western New York state.

  1. Red squirrels nibbling tree eyes, chipmunks going in and out of tree doors, walnut trees flouncing around the landscape...sounds like an enchanted kingdom to me...or at least the home of a wonderfully creative writer.

  2. A walnut tree, and he's working on plastic? Is he rabid? Foaming at the mouth?

  3. A mysterious twitching can be felt above my right eye as I read this post.

  4. brattcat: Ah, you know the kingdom . . .
Birdman and Karen: you make me laff. (In a good way)

  5. Some mineral he needs. Don't you read the ingredients on the bags of squirrel food you get? I do. Mine get genuine Jimmy Carter, Georgia, Peanuts.

  6. Nom nom nom...good for the teeth?

  7. LOL AMAZING shot, I've enlarged it and it's fabulous!
    Very smart little friend there!

  8. Very nice capture! That little critter must be really hungry. Poor of him!
    Thanks for sharing;o)

Have a nice and happy week****
