New Books

Two very different books that I'd ordered arrived last week: Lettres a Giorgio and The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus.

I'll have to do a separate post showing the illustrated postcards and envelopes in Lettres a Giorgio: 1967-1975--all so colorful and intriguing. They make me want to paint my envelopes. The illustrator's name is Folon; I'm off to do a search about him.

The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus is a novel in verse by Sonya Sones, whom you may know as a young adult author. This novel is for adults, "about marriage, motherhood and mayhem." I find something simpatico in Sones' voice, almost as if my characters Jack in Love That Dog or Annie in Heartbeat had grown up and written in their adult voice. Sones' character displays an appealing combination of humor and poignancy.

What are you reading?

  2. Those look spectacular! I love the idea of the first one...seeing the way an artist's skill spills over into other areas of life. When I was about 13 I used to decorate all my envelopes...but I was hardly an artist. I think our postman got a kick out of it though. :)

  3. I've three granddaughters, ages 6, 6, and 10, who love to read. Yesterday, after spending the afternoon with my daughter, I went to the bookstore to get one of your books. Instead, I departed with three: The Wanderer, heartbeat, and Ruby Holler. I'm currently reading Ruby Holler. It's a wonderful book. Dallas and Florida hooked me in Chapter 1 and I can't wait to see where life takes them.

  4. What am I reading? I am reading this post and feeling honored that one of my very most favorite authors on the planet has mentioned my brand new book on her blog...

    Thank you so much, Sharon!

  5. Oh, dear. You'll probably cringe!
    1. Legal transcripts:
    (a) medical malpractice;
    (b) employment law, sexual harassment in the workplace
    2. An old murder mystery by Steve Martini

    I wish I could say something that had more punch and marvel, but what can I say? My daughter is a book critic and I read for my work plus a little drivel for some variety!
