As my granddaughter
(now 18)
began her article
in a local paper recently:
"It's official: we are living in Crazytown."
So swiftly did our normal routines change
that this new world
feels
upside down.
Crazytown.
We are hunkered down
wearing and making masks
washing our hands
checking in on others.
We are cleaning closets
and drawers and files--
our attempt to create order
in this disordered world.
But what treasures
I have found
in this cleaning and sorting:
saved letters from students and teachers
most poignant
many humorous
most sincere
in their love of a book
and its characters
and
(as one student said)
"the round comfort feel of it."
And I've unearthed
saved photos and drawings:
generous gifts
of spirit.
Crazytown, yes,
but there are some
beautiful things
in
Crazytown.
Beaming you all
safety, health
and
bountiful
luverino.
xx
