The Not-so-brisk Walk

I'm going out to take a brisk walk
but
barely out the door
there is this:

(it helps)

Helloooo, cone flower
hellooooo, bee

Two more steps
and then:

I touch its wilted neighbor
and it dissolves
blood red
in my hand

Onward
going to walk
going to walk briskly
but
then

Hellooo, black-eyed Susan
and

giant hippo boulder
. . .

Walk on, walk on
and then

Oh, mannnn!
Oh, mannnn!
Look at that!

That's it.
I wave the white flag.

I call a truce.
I'm not walking anywhere.
I'm just going to sit here
and
drool.

xx

  1. Oh, my gosh, I see so many creatures in that huge boulder: a toad with a mouth so large, it could swallow you whole, the sleeping head of a tyrannosaurus rex, a bulgy-eyed thing-a-ma-whatter, and, and, and. . .

The flowers are lovely—better to lure you in, Sharon. Be careful out there.

    1. About the boulder: yes! Very odd, that boulder. And very cool.

    2. I got a little carried away with commas here. I'll blame it on the boulder. I could send half a day observing a thing like that. Distraction seems to be a common theme with creatives. If it isn't flowers, it's light and shadow veering us off course. Kind of makes my hubby crazy sometimes. . .

  4. You and I, Sharon, peas in a pod. We would not travel far, but we would see so much. xxoo

  5. That orange cluster reminds me of ribbon candy. We had it around after Christmas... after all the 'real' candy had disappeared.

  6. We have the same blooms !
I hate to see Summer wane..but they are all beautiful..
The goosenecks always look like swans to me..

  7. Is the boulder what inspired the sleeping bear boulder in 'Chasing Redbird?'

  8. That black-eyed Susan is so cheery and straightforward. If I could be a friend with any flower, she’d be first on my list.
